Zamorins Tower " - The Tower of Malabar -"

The project to build ‘Fraternity Tower with Zamorin's museum and Kunhali Marikkar garden', which was ratified by the State government, has run into rough weather with regard to its design, name, place, etc.

The government has asked the District Collector to revamp the project and one would not be surprised if the project is scrapped. If realised, it would be a pride not only for Kozhikode, but for the State. Kozhikode has a history of stalling developmental project — S.M.. Street Heritage and Muthalakulam projects, to name a few. Similar was the opposition to the Mananchira Square project, but the then District Collector Amitabh Kant was determined to execute the project. Kozhikode, known as the ‘Land of Zamorin's ' should take the lead role in naming the Fraternity Tower after the Zamorin.

The possibility of building underground parking facilities should be explored. Eminent historians who hail from this city would be able to give vital inputs and should be made part of the project. The decisive role played by the erstwhile District Collector, P.B. Salim, should be acknowledged. Concerted efforts by the people from all walks of life may lead to the fulfilment of a long cherished aspiration of the people of Calicut – 'The Zamorin's Tower'.
